My Story

Wow...time sure passes quickly. Blink of an eye and we're already halfway thru the first part of the first semester. In these weeks I have been busy rushing for my EE2001 mini project, leaving every other module aside. After I'm done with the project, I realise that it's pretty straighforward actually. Cos most header files and functions are already provided so what is left for us to do is figure out the logic and read the datasheets to find out how to connect the hardware together. But after do it u'll feel like u've accomplished something although with help and hints but hey at least it was ur hard work and sweat and blood...oops no blood no blood... Oh btw I had 2 mini attempts to burn down the lab but I didn't manage to...unfortunately...urm I mean fortunately...

Besides EE2001, the UROP project has also been occupying a big part of my time. If I'm not in EE2001 lab I'm probably in the UROP lab (during daytime la). The UROP project is getting more interesting now that we've all settled down to distribute tasks and work on it. My direct head, a Masters student is a very nice proactive guy who really loves to share his beliefs and passion for the work he's doing. Always encouraging us to js gain as much knowledge as possible. Which is what I hope to accomplish from this project. Our project is confidential so I can't disclose what we're doing. But, what I can say is I'm involved in the games team and am supposedly in charge of the sounds and graphics. Which is pretty cool haha...cos I managed to add sounds into the game and also used some music editor which makes me feel professional cos of the many buttons they have all over... :p UROP's getting interesting and I hope it'll stay that way or become more and more interesting...it's really a cool experience... and one more thing I can learn from it is documentation cos my head asks us to keep documentations on what we do from Day 1...whoops I haven't started yet...

Week 1...

School has started for a week already. I'm officially a third year student. I don't feel like it's a new academic year tho. Probably cos there's no freshies in my hall due to the renovations. Even when I go engin canteen for lunch I assume everyone are seniors. But I guess it's easy to detect some freshies cos never saw them b4... :p

Week 1 has been quite busy week. I dun appear busy. It's just that there's so many stuff to settle. Project ideas, printing notes, timetable scheduling...everything is not so obvious in third year. Pieces of each task is here and there and I need to organise it myself. I haven't got the urge to tho. I'm still in a holiday mood and dun feel like studying geesh. I gotta step up my gear soon... haih...

Back in hall, most of my gang is missing. SEP and shifted out. Feels so empty but luckily I've build up another gang during vacation. So, my meal gang is still pretty full. Lucky for me cos I just hate to have meals alone. In fact, I never have meals alone if noone else is having haha. Hall is half empty now since there's no freshies. But most of the people left are ppl u regularly see around anyway so there's not so much of a change.

Timetable in school ain't so packed yet. Mondays are free for me. But, having EE2001 project to do any free time will probably be spent in lab anyway. Also, I need to allocate some of my time for my UROP project. Hopefully, I'll be registered soon. Also hope that I'll be having a lot of fun and knowledge throughout the project. And who knows, if all goes well, I may be able to continue it for FYP as well haha. Thinking abit too far but o well.

I'm currently watching World Badminton Championships. Too bad M'sia lost all and din manage to enter semis. Disappointed but well I guess being M'sians we're used to it. At least they gave a good fight... Haha I'm really addicted to badminton aren't I...I follow almost every match there is... :p

Another blog post at work. Shows how bored I am at work. Well not really bored now since it's only the morning. Normally super bored towards going back time. Anyway there's only 1 and a half more weeks left before intern ends and before I go back home for a week's holiday before school starts (so many before-s haha).

I suddenly came to realise that I've been in I2R for a long time now...10 and a half weeks now. Didn't feel that long but when you look back it's really long. Can't say that I've learnt a lot from this internship but I can't say that I've learnt nothing either. Guess I did pick up some knowledge about certain industry-related matters but just not deep enough. There's still so much out there to know about.

I told myself I'll probably not involve in programming work when I graduate in the future. However, in this modern times, programming isn't very easy to escape from especially since I'm pursuing a computer engineering degree. Of course you shouldn't expect that all CPE students are wizards in programming... But anyway, I won't hide from programming... I still have a little spark of interest of it in me. Although I may not be a genius in it, it's still fun when you get the program to work the way you want it to. Anyway here's an article which makes me feel even lousier haha...young girls winning a programming competition...

Well school is gonna start soon...and I ought to be prepared to face a really tough sem...with EE2001 and EE3207 project to deal with. I dunno which lab I will be sleeping over at haha... The EE2001 website had recently been updated and the theme is assistive technology/personal egadget...sounds interesting but I think the main thing is for the group to come up with a good idea and work towards realising it...well hope for the best next sem... =)

Another long break in between posts... :p The past week felt like it creeped on so slowly although I had many things to do. Well anyway that week's over and there's only 3 more weeks left to go home... hope the weeks breezes past... :p

Last week I've been building a routine...slacking at work as usual. Btw this week, work is supposed to be busy. My supervisor said may need to overtime and all that but by the looks of it...I don't think I'll be OT-ing today cos there's no sign of him anywhere. Hmm... slacking at work doesn't seem very fun anymore...I rather be spending my time sleeping or doing something else useful in my room. Haih...

Anyway at nights I go to lab since I'm now doing UROP...so far what I know is that I'll probably by programming some flash games. Luckily Chi Xu another undergrad there is teaching me...anything I dunno I can ask him although sometimes paiseh haha. I'm supposed to do some game now...but haven't really got started at it cos it's still pretty new...ActionScript and all... but basics in programming languages really helped me...last time before I came to NUS I'll probably have no clue as to what the programs are talking about...at least now the syntax seems more familiar although it still differs between different languages...

Weekends are still the best though...especially Saturday where I can sleep in late and sleep late... :p... haha...but Sunday was fun too. I went to Suntec with Chin Wee and Lee Hoong...and we practically had free lunch and dinner haha. Cos we stumbled on a Nestle health fair in Suntec Convention Centre. And there were plenty of free samples which was good enough to fill our stomachs. Even had a free check-up haha...my blood pressure's good this time round. :) Haha the things u do when u have frens around is crazy haha... cos I dun think my family would want to queue so long (although long it was still pretty fast moving tho) for the free samples...and we even went two rounds for some... :p

Felt like a long day today. Finally got some task to do at work...mostly searching and reading up on stuff. Really looking forward to the end of the internship though I don't really want studies to start either... Anyway today left workplace at 3.30pm cos supervisor brought us to some seminar in NUS...at Temasek Laboratories (the new building at engin) titled something like Brain-Mind Imaging or something. Luckily it only lasted for an hour...if he goes any deeper into the topic I'll be js really lost. My supervisor asked a question at the end of the talk and I have no idea what he and the speaker were discussing. Some concepts are just too new to me...

So kinda had an early day off today...not really much but quite a relief that I didn't need to walk back to hall since I'm already at the back of hall. Ho Yuet came with dinner for me..mee hoon from her lunch. Seems they cooked too much and had extra so she brought it for me haha. So nice got home cooked dinner. The mee hoon was Taiwan mee hoon so it tasted like dong fun (or tang hoon). Very yummy with the egg and "yu pian (fish cake yum)" and cabbage. Hehe...

After dinner, me and HY went to lab...the name of the lab is Edutainment Multimedia Lab or some sort like that. It's where we plan to do our UROP. They have hardware and software there and I think I'm more interested in the software...currently designing games using Flash...seems more fun to me. Hehe...anyway the ppl there are quite friendly...though all of them are PRC-s but still quite comfortable there. There's one Masters and one PHD student there and 3 other undergrads whom are EE and my batch. Those undergrads seem super pro already la. The guy that taught some Flash today only was there for 2 months and already they said he's mastered the art of Flash...he already programmed a number of games. Wow...hope I can learn a lot there la...it's more practical stuff... :p
