My Story

This week was a busy week. The busiest week I had so far...but it's also the most fun week haha. On 2 days of the week, I went out with Boon Chek to meet sponsors, see sample, jalan-jalan & shopping. Haha...not real shopping la...js window shop since we're supposed to be doing stuff.

Tuesday we went to Jurong Industrial Estate to get a sample of the tetrapak. Wah the factory damn canggih la...the office quite hi-tech...next time when I graduate I want to work there...haha...well...no really la...but din expect the "factory" to be so nice looking. There were even some automated robot things moving around (without driver la...cool leh).

After that, we walked all over the estate looking for pallets...pallets are those wooden planks forklifts use to lift stuff up...google if unclear. Most of the factories have them it's just that not many are willing to sponsor us since they bought it for their own use anyway. We were lucky to stumble upon one which didn't want about 30+ pallets. Our target is 30...so kau tim also.

After exploring the whole of Jurong (k...exagerrated...) BC dragged me to Enterprise Hub near IMM. It's also another industrial estate. Walked around that too to find the recycling centre that BC wanted to visit. Succesfully found it but the person doesn't want to sponsor...

On Wednesday, we went to Orchard Far East Plaza to meet the person sponsoring us zips. Not bad la the fella wanted full page advertisement and is willing to pay for it. So, we asked for $100 for the ad haha...earn a bit lor... And I discovered this second hand book shop...my sis would love it. I found Kane and Abel!!! So far bookstores don't carry it and second hand bookshops in M'sia doesn't seem to have it. This particular store has 2 copies summore. 1 older than the other (4th edition and 24th I think). I bought the newer one...$5 only...sound so damn cheap if you don't convert it to RM. But, anyway I still feel it's worth it cos me, my mum and my sis had such a good impression on this book when we first read it...it was those "must-continue-to read-cannot-put-down-kind". Finally, I own it...yes yes... =)

Overall I think we've almost gotten most of the stuff that float asked us to source for...those that needs sponsor. about 75% is confirmed d...it's a great achievement d...tmr we'll be goin to d collection...so going on a truck to pick up stuff...hope it'll be fun...

This week has been fun mainly cos we get to go out into the fresh air. Also, somehow we found amusement in BC's occasionally mispronounced words haha...it's not the mispronouncing that brings the joy...I think it's more of Wai Pheng's giggles at the matter that brings smiles to our faces haha...rite "cramp" man aka shopping man haha... =p

By the way, got addicted to Japanese dramas after I met up with Yee Cheng on Sunday. Got stuck in her room cos it was raining then she was watching some show called Yamada Taro...it's only 10 episodes though. Finished it today haha...downloaded the soundtrack also...haha...it was quite a touching story. Hmm..shall look for other dramas soon hehe...

So sick so siccckkk....sick of ppl, sick of calling, sick of worrying all the time whether the person will agree or not, sick of having high hopes about getting the sponsor, sick of dashed hopes when the person eventually says no...I guess it's part of the job. After all, not many would want to sponsor for nothing in return really....say if it is a small company...they don't have the capability to sponsor....say if it is a big company...they are not interested in such small events....then which companies are the right ones to ask? Hmm...it's not to say that we din get any sponsors though. There are some successful ones such as L-bars, CCB-s, egg crates, fruit trays that are pretty much settled by Wai Pheng and Boon Chek. So, we are quite half done with the sponsors...it's not that bad.

It's just me...tired of hearing my heart pounding everytime I pick up the phone...how the person would react to the word sponsorship. Some will say send email, some will say call back tmr....I dun blame them cos it's not an easy decision. Some nasty ones will say we don do this this and that, some js go nonononono, some say dun call back. Hey...we're js trying our luck, u don't have to be so rude. But maybe still can't blame them....cos if I was on the other end of the line, owning a small company, some stranger calls and asks for sponsorship I might bullshit them also...I dunno...haha....anyway doing this OMC...we try and learn to deal with these ppl...but I still haven't found a way to counter these ppl...I'll js have to blindly push thru the days...

Although calling is the major part of the job, I can't say that I don't enjoy OMC though. It has been fun working wif Boon Chek, Wai Pheng, Pooi Yean and Chao Yian. The times we just sit there and laugh at each others phone calls, talk crap bout childhood days sweets, trips to collect stuff (yesterday 4 of us travelled by bus to collect 300 egg crates....imagine what the other ppl in the bus would think of us haha). Overall, the company is great...

Anyway, 2 weeks have passed. Countdown: 1 more month to head home yes yes... =)

Haha...finally found some time to start blogging again. Well, I've been back to Singapore for almost a week now. For OMC work...been calling for CCB sponsorships. So far, sent some email proposals but none of mine replied yet...hopefully it's due to the long weekend. But, Boon Chek got one positive reply willing to sponsor us...yes!!!

Actually, calling isn't my cup of tea. But, it went quite alright...because I was js like a robot repeating the same phrases to the people who were on the other end of the line. Polite and courteous, they were the same to...most of them were at least. I don't blame them if they decline to sponsor either because their company is too small or doesn't manufacture what we're looking for. At least we tried...being the person asking for sponsorship, we SHOULD be polite otherwise ppl would not even bother to want to consider sponsoring us. It's okay really...I don't mind...hopefully there'll be more successful responses when most companies start work again tmr.

That is about requesting for sponsorship...what about asking for a service? Such as renting a truck. Hmm... I was supposed to deal with this truck man who supposedly is very 'fren' with Raffles...but it didn't come off well. It was js a chaos. Although I called him last Thursday saying that we would need a truck tmr that is, Tuesday...and today I called him again to confirm the time...he told me that they son't have any extra vehicles available. Hmm...he kept saying that we didn't confirm with him what day what time, and yet when I ask if I call you 3 days earlier, can u confirm a truck for me....he says he can't confirm that either because bla bla bla, so what's the point of calling him early to confirm anyway...which I did at least confirm the date with him and he didn't even bother making a point for that...I really dunno how he runs his business...this is business not asking him for sponsorship yet he doesn't want to make effort to try and help us...Maybe we called him a little late...but we DID call him earlier but he said it was too early...call him back in 2-3 days...I mean...what does he want exactly?? Izzit cos we're students....I dunno...shouldn't he be making the service?? I dun understand and I dunno what he wants. Haih...one bad experience here... :(

Other then OMC stuff, I still have plenty of free time to myself. How do I spend it? Haha...watch tv, watch movies, play badminton with the only other souls in hall....cy, bc and jas....haha...souls that play that is.... =) Otherwise, it's quite sien cos hall's a little to quiet for my pleasure...counting down 5 weeks to home haha....
