My Story

Yesterday was quite a hectic day...in the morning went with Ee Hiang, Guo Chen, and Hao Wei to Queensway to get Phea's present, shoes. It was an eye-opening experience to see Guo Chen looking for specific models of the shoes (New Balance or Asics). For a person who buys shoes based on the design alone haha, it was quite amusing when Guo Chen asks for me and Ee Hiang's opinion about whether the shoes are suitable for Phea....we just go...urm...nice look, flashy...haha. It was quite satisfying when GC finally found a "perfect" pair and was so happy with it haha...Also got some tubes of shuttlecocks for hall's badminton team...quite glad that the salesperson did give me a discount for it... =p

In the evening, the OMC team went out to Bugis for MM treat. Actually it was almost half of us only. 5 of us: me, Swee Yee, Gail, Boon Chek and of course the wallet, MM Chao Yian. We finally settled one of the steamboat shops there and filled our stomach's to our heart's content. Funny how CY and SY had a showdown on who got to the oysters first...hmm...Penang ppl liddat la...haih.... =p

After the treat, we went back to hall for the Malaysian Nite. Honestly speaking, I think that our year did a much better job at it. We didn't have so many spaces of time in between our items and in my view, we organised it js nice...haha. Though I must give credit to the Year 1's for cooking some of the supper...like the currypuff...that's very innovative...

Right after that, we celebrated Phea's birthday in the lower lounge. The cake was brought in by EH...and Phea himself brought green tea and Pringles (just love it) and poor Phea's bday present got stepped on after he tried it on...GC said it's tradition...but so "heart pain" to see that hmm... And after a lot of in between activities and hanging out, we finally walked Phea back to his hostel....I think it would be a queer sight to the ppl in cars...to c about 10 of us walking around at 3am haha...maybe in Sg it's not so weird I dunno...

By the way, I wanna apologise if I was a little moody towards the end, it wasn't really physical exhaustion, js mentally tired as I have been like that this few days...sorry sorry...these days seem to be a little rough...hmmm....

Ah 3 weeks into Semester 1 of Year 2 already....and I've never even talked about my modules here. In short, I'm taking 5 modules this sem: 3 core, 1 SS and 1 GEM. A brief summary:-

EE2006: Digital Design
This module is alright. Lecturer's okay though some parties claim that we go to class to listen to a dictation of truth tables since this module deals mostly with logic gates. So far, still can cope...hopefully can do the same when labs (projects) start....hmm....

EE2009: Signals
The lecturer's funny...he has a certain kind of accent and quite cute (I mean really cute, not the handsome kind of cute...just cute) cos of the way he talks and behaves and his actions. At the beginning, I felt he was going too fast and couldn't catch up with him. But, lately, after reading the txtbook, I find it ok...although answering exam questions may not be so simple...but compared to the killer module below...this is ok.

EE2012: Analytical Methods in ECE?
According to the 2nd part lecturer who happens to my module, this module is some rubbish maths clumped together...you can't get any other reference books which will give you all the topics taught except the txtbook written by the 1st part lecturer... The current lecturer, I can't understand what he's teaching really, I think even if I read the notes myself I can understand better...how to survive this module?? :(

GEM1508: Einstein-quantum theory n relativity
GEM's are always supposedly to be fun. Well, it is a break from core modules of course....but it's no easy peasy either. There's a book review to be written, and the concepts of relativity aren't very hard to grasp...even for a Science student. But, the fun thing here is that I'm taking the module with Shu Lin and Li Wei. And, we got to experience star gazing tonight. We went to the soccer field and looked at Jupiter through telescopes...managed to see brown bands on Jupiter and its 2 moons (only 1 visible)...quite cool...

SSA1201: Singapore Society
By far, this is the lecture I most look forward to. 2 reasons: lecturer's so interesting (sarcastic) though sometimes I shrink into my seat when he starts poking at M'sia...not without reason. 2nd reason is cos it's the last lecture of the week and the weekend is coming haha. Ah...lucky I chose this SS module...summore got Li Wei, Terry and Tirza taking together...hehe...

Well, that's all for the academic stuff these 3 weeks...Feeling down these past 2 days...maybe studies starting to become overwhelming, hall activities application is going on, a lot of stuff and pressure from others...or maybe other stuff as well...just have not been feeling myself...so don't mind me if I appear solemn....sad....cos that's what I really really feel like...hope it's js a phase...

Olympics badminton final

It's been a looong time since I last updated my blog haha. And I'll break this "silence" with my favourite topic, badminton. =p

As most Malaysians already know, Lee Chong Wei, our men's singles player has won the silver from the Olympics. Although hopes were high on him getting Malaysia's first gold, he couldn't manage it yesterday and just cracked under pressure. It's not easy playing internationally, with the whole nation's hopes on his shoulder, so it doesn't matter...continue to jia you Chong Wei.

Read more about the Olympics badminton final here!

Yesterday's struggle to find a place to watch Chong Wei in action was pretty dramatic. After trying to stream a channel since Saturday, I did not manage to get even a single channel running (just got a bunch of P2P programs all over my desktop). So, our options to watch the badminton final was to find someone who has managed to stream or go to comm hall and watch. But, the Singapore against China table tennis final was also going on....so the comm hall was packed with urm....PRC-s.

Therefore, me, Shu Lin, Swee Yee, Alex and other badminton fanatics (includes Wei Jian, Ah Chua, Ju Ee, Shareen) went over to Chin Wee's room to catch the match. Since he has proudly publicised that he managed to stream it. However, around the beginning of the 1st set only, it got disconnected. So for around 5 mins, we were just staring at the live score figures (with Lin Dan's score going up and up).

Then, we saw that the Singapore table tennis team were on the brink of losing, and decided to migrate to the comm hall to watch RTM1 after it finishes. When we reached comm hall, just nice....we caught the last point, gold medal point for China. Like the speed of light (slightly slower), Alex already changed the channel to TV1...yes yes...slowly a crowd built up and it was a fight between the PRC-s and the Malaysians there (see who clapped louder...I think we won...just that there were very few chances to clap since Chong Wei didn't do well).

All in all, it was great to catch this very important match with so many other fellow Malaysians who all just wanted to see Chong Wei bring glory to our nation. Although you didn't win, we're still proud of you Chong Wei. :)
