My Story

Finally, all the planning and practicing came to an end. The real show was shown d. And, although preparations were just 7788 (in Cantonese it means so so) the night turned out quite well. It was more of a spontaneous thing. Even in the drama we changed here and there on stage. Js follow the flow la. We had the sound effects for drama as well...which we nvr practiced before with it. But it turned out really well. Phew d drama did get some laughs from the audience well we intended it to be a funny thing not a boring, draggy history scene.

And then there were games as well...although we cut doen a lot of them cos we started late and had constraint of time. They put on music performances as well. We had a band which had flute, violin, keyboard and drums playing Gemilang song by Jaclyn Victor. Gosh...it was so beautiful and they arranged it themselves. Well...what do u expect...the violin player, Lucian, is a member of Malaysia's piano orchestra...cool leh... Then got guitar performance by Sam and JJ singing. Guang Liang shao nian....though I dunno the song I enjoyed it...

Then there was also dance which we spent quite an amount of time practising and voila....99% perfect performance haha.... good thing we kept our dances short. But, the main attraction was the Indian dance where JJ and Jasvind were acting as a couple lo urm they're both guys by the way....and dancing like how normal Indian couples would do haha.... So, u can expect the crowd's sambutan haha. Overall, everything went smoothly except a bit of miscommunication with the tech department....didn't clarify what we want and dun want.

So that's d summary of all the performances. Of course we had d most important thing the countdown....and sang some songs. Then got supper lo...din eat any haha...cos by the time reach the table...most food gone d...so no mood eat oso haha. K then came an event. Geesh...dunno how to put it. The senior guys huddled around the junior guys....and urm....dun wanna elaborate la...but they did something....well u can imagine anything...it won't get any worse...just say that there were lots of skin colour. Hmm...i dunno if it's a tradition...but I find it weird....and urm...k nvm...get over it...thank god I was far away at that time.

After dat we had a short chat with the Malaysian seniors, brief intro who we are and where we come from. Then, by the time clean up and arrange back the hall...1 plus d...so late....supposed to celebrate Phea's birthday but he wasn't feeling well and went to sleep d...anyway happy birthday Phea! Oh and happy 50th birthday Malaysia!

Ok we had this IBG supper tonight. It was js a supper with video clips of the IBG and a catwalk by some models for the Raffles windbreaker. Thank god I wasn't on that stage. Almost volunteered myself but lucky for me I didn't join haha cos uhem...not to say on top of my to-do list haha. O yea congrats to Wai Pheng for getting the convo mm though I didn't noe that existed until today. Want auxilary ppl....auxors (is that how it's spelled?)...come find us from block 6 first haha.

Then after the IBG supper we had this special program organised by the final years. It's called boy meets girl. And, it's something like guardian angel in school last time. Although there are other names for it like angel-mortal and sp (special partner). So, get the gist right? It's this game where they pair u up and we send gifts bla bla bla to the "secret" person and try to guess and all that. Fun game? Sure... but if u noe who ur partner is then less fun d lo. They sat us down blindfolded with our partners and let us chat for few minutes. Uhem...then you'll know what happen lo...u chat and somehow u find out who ur partner is. Although we don't mention names. Chatting time sure can gather some stuff oso. For me, actually I dunno everyone in RH but it js so happened that I got paired up with a SENIOR that I have spoken to before haha. We have a common interest in sport hehe. So he knows me I know him. At least if I one of us dunno the other then it'll be ok oso lo... Well we'll js have to pretend dunno haha. So, I think that the next time we have this game we shouldn't be allowed to talk to each other. Js pick a number and bravo u have a partner and then u can start sending gifts n so on...and start guessing. Js an experience...

Phew....3 classes today. 2 lectures 1 tutorial. Early in the morning had EG1108. Gosh...I'm really behind on that module. Lec's d finished chapter 5 I'm only at end of chapter 2. So blur with what he's teaching. Mayb it's cos it's all new concepts and the sight of circuits running around everywhere freaks me out a little. Voltage, current, resistors, really 'mesh'-ed up.... Cannot say don't understand also. Understand a bit but doubt I can do d questions...geesh. Then halfway thru the class i shut down d. Haih...cos blur ma...cannot absorb anymore...so go back read myself lo. But, go back also hmm...dun really understand. Tonight must sit and think.

Marketing tutorial was alright though a little intimidating cos of the prospects of all the assignments and group presentations that we have to do. But, lectures of marketing is quite fun so well I'm in the module so better do my best. Though I know nuts bout business haha.

And programming lecture was in the late afternoon. I dun noe if it was the time or the lec himself. But I was feeling quite sleepy and only concentrated in the first half of the lecture. For now programming seems ok...understandable....but....we haven't started d real stuff yet so mayb not right judgement haha...hopefully can cope with all these la...have to work hard to cover everything. Now that tutorial has started...doesn't seem like got much time. Mayb cos all my biweekly tutorials are all on the odd week haha. So it's liek 1 packed week and hopefully a more relaxed next week...

By the way, the weather today has been so crazy. Rained the whole day I think... The heavy rain at lunch time was scary....

Js came back from the points forum. It's actually a meeting where we discuss about the generally known CCA points to stay in hall next year. The JCRC have changed the system last year...actually I'm not clear bout the changes cos we year 1's blur blur dunno anything haha. Overall, I kinda caught that we're supposed to join 3 main activities either sports, cultural or committee, some participation in events and bla bla bla. During the forum, the seniors mostly raised issues on how the point system can be fair to everyone, how it can be made more efficient, like sut-ing the JCRC only haha. Pity them...they tried their best to answer everything but hey they're human too. Can't expect everything to be resolved such as d handlings of the sign-in and sign-outs. If ppl wanna cheat, it's their business. U can't stop them. If u don't do it and I don't do it...number of cheaters will be less lo. It's d attitude of the ppl and u can't possibly change that if they dun want to. Anyway, the forum is like a serious meeting where they need ppl to do proposals and seconders bla bla....it's a new thing for me. They had the JCRC forum earlier as well similar to this one. There's many things in this world that still need to be learnt. Yup....so at the end of the forum, we had to vote whether to pass the new points system or not. And we didn't get the majority vote so the forum has to be postponed. Ya gonna have another identical forum with ironed out point systems. JCRC not easy job to do... Hopefully can be successful... =p

The application for the activities begins tmr. I plan to join badminton definitely, and the rest not decided yet...thinking of tech but I didn't get for the concert d....so should I or should I not? Hmm...then got choir...uh....can't really sing well...and block comm?? Gosh...what should I join?? Got 48 hours to think....

So, I was staying at my parents' hotel for the past 2 nights. Felt like I was js on a holiday with them. Then today had to come back to hostel again...haih. Anyway, conquered I think 4 shopping malls in 2 days haha....rare feat for my family. Friday we went to Vivocity and IMM. Sat Central and Suntec. Js went to walk around la...not shopping spree haha. Chinatown also walked finish d...it's js like KL's chee cheong kai or Petaling street. Though I think that food wise, still nothing can beat Malaysia's food. As Swee Yee puts it, here we eat to live not live to eat. She comes from Penang what do u expect... =p I took a number of photos la but can't upload it cos didn't have the camera cable. I like the Merlion park's pics...the one wif the lion spitting out water...supposed to be Sg's main 'monument' lo... Basically, had a fun outing with my family. The time spent with them is priceless. Hmm...miss them already. Gosh... :(

Oh yeah and thanks to my mum's cousin we had a nice dim sum breakfast at some restaurant today. Reminds me of Klang's Hai Tien Lou...MUST....go....there....once I'm back haha. But haven't been there for ages. Hope it's still yummy over there. Oh....and I got a new handphone haha. Courtesy of my mum's cousin. It's actually his old one...but I love it cos it's definitely better than mine. His got camera n mp3 player wan...unlike my 0 feature colour phone haha. Of course I still adore my first phone la...but nvm for a change haha...

So, my family's back in Malaysia...so it's back to studying for me. 4 more weeks to holiday hehe....

Generally a good and happy day today (except for the boooring physics lec...gosh...i think i DID fall asleep at one point). Y? Cos my parents n sis r in Sg to visit me yay. So happy... They arrived round 6pm only cos they visited my other sis in JB. Haha...brought all my nesseccities (dunno how to spell) hehe...like food yum...got mooncake oso...the festival's coming around soon i suppose. Gonna b a fat piggy soon...haha nola...here too much exercise til can't balance the incoming food. Kla not only got food la...other stuff like my badminton racquet and my tkd uniform oso....oh and my soft toy hehe...d doggy, 1 out of my many at home *sniff*. Miss my home.... :( Well, luckily got most of my home here for the weekend. So, we went to techno edge for dinner. Then, after dat my mum's cousin came n brought us to his house. I think my mum's last visit there was like 20 years ago man...wif my grandma. Well, that was all for today cos they dumped me back at hostel cos tmr I got class at 9. 1 hour class...then I'm free to go spend my weekend. Hooray!!!

Yay....finally settled all my buying of books stuff. Actually, I didn't plan to buy lots of books cos all so expensive. Hmm...but some compulsory o then had to buy la... Luckily the physics wan so ngam I bought the book during Form 6. Actually my dad bought it for me la...hehe....so less one book to buy. Then got few books given to me by senior, Yuan Mei (thanks!) hehe...so overall I only had to buy 4 books I think. All 2nd hand wan lo...more worth. I quite kiam siap ho...but hey...who doesn't want to save more money.

I think Mondays I'll be having regular yum cha sessions with Jess. She's my mum's cousin's daughter. That makes us urm...second remove cousins?? according to her....I dunno either haha. Js cousin la. Cos on Mondays she got free time between 4-7 so get me to pei her lo. Actually, we nvr really met b4 I came here but now met few times d....she's so friendly....nice feeling lo...makes me feel better staying here.

Anyway, concert I got fund raising, my 3rd choice. Din manage tech lo...obviously my interview 'skills' sucks badly. But, got a second interview...I have no clue what's that about...gee....I do not like interviews...hmm...

Started my day with waking up...duh! We had another IBG of handball at SRC but it started raining halfway so we didn't manage to complete it. Luckily, cos I was like a total blur case out there...didn't no nuts about the rules and all....and we were being thrashed by the other block. Not thrashed la...they were js lucky i suppose...=p Hehe...

Then went for taekwondo welcome tea at 230pm. It was actually training la. And, my legs all rust d. Their warm up took bout like half an hour. Then we did basic kicks, target kicking, target sparring. I was tired yeah. I used to train in a girl's school...so thru the times...our training ain't that tough anymore. So, coming here really quite different. It's good la...can do more...build up my stamina...I think. But, still considering whether will full time join this or x...cos hall oso got activities leh. Joined this varsity club is out of interest lo... :) But training twice a week dunno can cope or x. Later pengsan straight away haha...

After that, went for practice for Malaysian nite...dunno I got mention b4 or x...it's a countdown thingy on 30th aug. We were supposed to practice for the drama that Jerome sculpted out. As usual, out of the maaany (already quite few) ppl we hv, only a few turned up. Can't blame them la...cos mostly went back home or got other activities. It's quite a norm la...can't expect everyone to follow rite... Anyway, we managed to practice 2 out of the 9 scenes which I'm involved in one of them and I have zero confidence bout that day. Geesh....cos I'm not a natural actor...actually I can act but not in front of so many thousands (exaggerated a little...mayb js hundreds) of ppl hehe. Well js hv to cross my fingers and hope the whole thing works out fairly well...if not good.

Oh yeah then we went to Fong Seng for dinner. Silly prata cheese so small but expensive. But, plus the Horlicks got 60% full la... Fong Seng not very near to Raffles leh...bout 10 min walk there...we took long way summore. Coming back was worse. We took a shorter way but it's uphill so harder to walk. Then, almost reaching Raffles d....got 1 shuttle bus came from behind....so the 8 of us ran like mad uphill to catch that bus at Central library....for those of u who noe..it's only 1 stop away from Raffles...so we ran to sit the bus for think less than 1 min. I think if we walked, we would have used the equal amount of energy to reach Raffles haha...

So had 3 days of lecture d. Maths still can catch cos so far basics only...though I don't think I can solve any questions yet. EG (electrical engineering) was like bullet train. No notes, so blur, he taught the stuff that we used to learn in a few chapters in STPM in bout 1 hour 40 min only. So I quite blur as to what we need to cover. Then programming was okla...since he hasn't started serious stuff. Quite relax...but it won't be like dat in the future. The semesters here are shorter oso...so blink eyes will be exam time d haha...

Hmm...hall summore got so many activities. Our inter-block games is still goin on. Previous nite we had basketball and yest volleyball. Yest, block 6 got into d final but lost in 3 sets...nvm...it's the spirit-we were all there cheering for every single point we got- that counts. Summore got Malaysian nite leh...a nite where we countdown to Merdeka. Then, there's this concert which is a musical production by the hall. They have different departments such as tech, marketing, fund-raising (which are my choices from 1-3) and others which I know I definitely can't make it like cast, music, publicity, sets, costumes and stage manager ass. (ah sam). It's gonna be held around October I think and preparations are beginning d. Whether which department I manage to get in, all need lots of commitment on our part. It's cool but busy. Hope that I can cope la...learn to prioritise ppl say. Balance studies and activities. Sounds easy...to carry it out?....not so....but it's workable...

So, just attended my first lecture in uni - MA1505 or more commonly known as Maths. Just a one hour lecture..so still can tahan haha. D prof was teaching functions. My knowledge of everything was pushed back into some dark, dusty corner of my brain already. So, it took some time to get it up and running. But he was teaching the really basic stuff, js functions, limits, bla bla...so still okla...but I didn't print out the notes so js stare at the screen and jot down js a little examples haha. Gosh...must start from the beginning ppl say...urgh...ge...go go go...

Anyway, I'm so happy I got to bid for a biz module...principles of marketing. But, dunno can get or not la...cos bidding haven't close yet. But, got slight chance la compared to ss n gem modules. Regret or not choosing this...we'll hv to c how it goes lo. Cos I got no 'sin li jun pei' for biz at all. Had to take this cos CPE students hv to take modules anyway and can't get the others...I'll b jumping for joy if I get this la. *crosses fingers* Countdown to 11pm....

Yay today was rag day. It's a big event for NUS where they parade their floats to thank the public for the collection on Flag Day. When I mean they actually it's we, the ppl from halls and faculties. As promised, it was a big event this year especially since it's d first time it's held at the Padang of Singapore. There was lots of ppl, sweaty mostly, cheering around, or shouting, phew... We shouted our heads off cheering for our hall. I think cos our hall seems to hv the smallest population or most ppl were helping out with the setting up of the float. Raffles did a bus float. Inside got phoenix head and wing. Cool man...the head and wings can move wan. Of course there was also the dance...some phoenixes, snakes and students. Overall, I felt that our hall did very well, if not the best. But, there's always buts isn't there? Well, but, don't think we won anything so sad. The other halls had at least 1 title to their name. There were lots of titles being thrown around....I couldn't catch them all. Well, anyway the whole day was quite fun though freaking hot. Cos we were concentrating on shouting the loudest and js having fun. Even did a mass dance with the music they played haha...crazy bunch yeah. We had to leave b4 they finished announcing the winners of the various titles. They announced lots d...so don't think we won any. Well...what the heck, we put lots of effort and enjoyed the whole process and rag day. So yay...

I can't get my SS (Singapore Studies not self study yea) modules. Hmm...cos I bidded for the wrong one I think. Don't really know how it works. And this round they either don't let me bid or my timetable clashes. So how? I'm so blur oso. And this is the last round that we freshman are protected. That means next round we have to compete with the seniors who have more points. Well looks like I'm gonna have to appeal. After going thru everything i think I've roughly got an idea of what to bid for. Timetable ok...exam dun clash den put only la. After all SS is js a requirement. Doesn't matter what I take i think....big headache d...

We had interblock games today. Morning had floorball. My block only 2 girls showed up so we tak jadi take part in it lo. So instead we joined other block girls in the final haha. Just for the feeling of the game la. Oh anyway floorball is like ice hockey. Except that it's not on ice, the sticks are made of plastic stuff, and d ball's oso plastic ball like those kids play dat kind. Not bad la when get d ball js whack like crazy...i din even care to whom haha...so teruk.

The important event is in the afternoon. We played touch rugby. It's not rugby la...not so rough. Basic rules: can only pass back, when u kena touch u must put the ball down n let ur teammate pick it up and defenders hv to move back, and u score by touching down d ball at the finishing end. Y is this event important? Cos block 6 steamrolled their way to the gold wahahaha... We played mixed team la...bout 3 guys and 1 girl. Scored like 2-1, 6-2, n 4-0...something like dat. Haha actually it was cos we had 3 guy seniors who play the sport. So...we js had to pass to them and they'll handle it...we js take care of the touching haha. So cool block 6 finally got to win a sport in the IBG (thanks to seniors of course)...although we may be small in number, our spirits are high.

At night pulak got something like finale of hall orientation. We were led to a few spots and the seniors acted out some activities that we hv went thru b4 during orientation. Then there was an intiation. They gave us a giant ball and we had to put it up to the 3rd floor with all of us still on the ground floor. Wow...the idea of it was overwhelming. How in the world r we gonna do that? But, anyway there were lots of seniors on the 2nd n 3rd floor...so we knew we must use them. We had to keep the giant ball in air and not let it touch the ground leh and it must b rolling around. Not stationary. Boy, what a great exercise for my hands. In the history of Raffles the ball nvr touched the ground before. Well...we had to do it didn't we. We were passing the ball around in a circle...whoops....overshot the ppl....ball unbalanced....toink toink toink....ball falls to the ground. Gosh...so embarassing. Hmm...well anyway we still had to pull the ball up to the third floor. The seniors had pulleys with them. And we had rope. So we passed ropes to our both sides...2 ropes...hmm dunno how to explain...if got picture I'll put it up...and then make a net with shirts....and put the ball onto it...then pull it up...so cool and happy when it was flying high up there in the middle of nowhere. Sounds simple...but I think we took 2 hours plus to complete it...*phew*....damn tired hands...and throats cos had to cheer as well...worth it anyway...it was a fun experience overall...

Today was flag day. It's a day where we go out to Singapore to with 2 tin cans to collect money from the public. It's js like Hari Bendera. Hey I think it's d same...haha. Js that we have small little stickers instead of the big car stickers distributed in Malaysia. Guess it's cos much lesser Singaporeans have cars. So the day started at bout 5.45am. I mean woke up at that time, but we started moving only at 7.30am. My group went to Yishun first. Everywhere we went, there were pink ppl around. Oh our flag day 'uniform' is a pink colour t-shirt with the wordings NUSSU on the front anf Rag + Flag Day at the back. So beginning semangat la...who also ask. Walked around everywhere to ask ppl donate. Small kids going to school also kena attack. Basically we js asked whoever we run into. Our aim was to fill up our 2 cans. Around ten had brunch at Mcd. By that time, our aim reduced to 1 can only. Cos at the rate we were going....hehehe... Actually it felt like an outing to see Singapore. We hopped from places to places like Woodlands, Choa Chu Kang... Other than asking for donation, we had another break at 2pm and 5.30pm for tea n dinner. So it was like ask, break, ask, break again, then go back d. Could c the many faces of ppl. Some readily approach u to donate. Some js turn their faces away when u speak and pretend u're not there (quite rude la...even I would js smile n wave my hand or something) But, can't blame them la...cos the whole Singapore was swarmed with pink flaggers from NUS. To quote a donor, "I came from Clementi to Woodlands still can't escape these ppl....donate only lor..." Well...would I go flagging again? Well...we'll c next year. =p Oh anyway in the end I could only manage to fill mayb 3/4 of the first can. Shu Lin's was almost full d...she so ho liao...everyone oso ask. Old or young also kacau =D

Well can't sleep yet...cos my hair's wet. Just finished a netball game. It's the first of the inter-block games. I'm from Block 6. We won 1 game against Block 3 and lost a game against Block 5. But, who cares...we're js there to have fun...get to know each other. After all who will remember d winner or loser after a few more days. We all did our best, those who nvr touched a ball before in their life got to and everyone's happy.

What else did we do today? Oh we decorated our block. The theme was egyptian. So someone came up with the idea of using the egyptian alphabets to form the words Block 6...think they call it something like heroglif...last time learn in sejarah b4 what...and we had to put up a performance. We sang some cheer la...and put in some egyptian moves inside. Not bad...we got the most important prize konon-nya...for best performance. Heard the judges (hall master and resident fellows) were very impressed by the heroglif-es.

Anyway, tmr we're having the hall exam. Have to pass if not kena kick out from Raffles. But, it's open book la. So if dun pass dunno how la...die d. So should go sleep oso. First time get to sleep so early...hehe...nitez

*phew* tiring 2 days...Previous day we had a 'sleepover' in the comm hall. Slept at 12 plus...I suspected they'll do something in the middle of the night. Since we happily gathered ourselves as 'preys' there and were asked to wear sports shoes... =p Sure enough, at 5am in the morning, they banged on the cardboard walls waking all of us freshies up. Then, we had a short morning jog. God only knows what would others think if they see a group of >70 ppl running around so early. After the jog-cum-run, we walked thru a 'tunnel' to a small area. Then they distributed t-shirts...green in colour...same as my kelantan t-shirt colour yea. All of us recited a pledge led by one of the seniors. Oh then a phoenix rose up into the air from a some place not far away. Big thing made of cloth. The seniors sure put hell a lot of effort in making that. Kudos to them! We had a slice of cake for 'breakfast' later because it was the hall master's birthday.

Then we went back to our rooms and continued our sleep. I didn't participate in the day's activities cos I had to go to Lavender to kau tim my student's pass. But I think it was just a guide on how to bid for CORS. NUS has a system where u hv to place bids like auctions to get the modules which aren't pre-allocated to u. Cool huh? In the night time we had a steamboat dinner and a dialogue with a Justice who was the ex-hall master and ex-Rafflesian. Ended at 10.30pm I think. Think the day's over? Not at all...js the beginning of the block initiation. We were blindfolded and all of us were led in one line all around the block. There were obstacles yes...flour on our faces n shirts, steps up, steps down, drains and whatever the seniors could do to try and stop us. We got wet and dirty of course. And the last one was a water slide which they made on the slope. That was fun...and wet. We also had a hilarious pledge which goes something like this...repeat after me, say what I say, Mcdonalds Mcdonalds, KFC ah KFC, then it continues with something sensible like I will not bua (think it means rampas) seniors' gf-s or bf-s. Haha....there were some sense la...but 50% of it was totally for laughs. I found the whole event quite fun la...destress...oh wait I haven't been studying for 7 months...what's there to destress...hehe...

And today finally kau tim-ed my TFL yes. It was a smooth process on the 3rd try. 3rd time lucky? =p

Went for the welcome tea of the engineering faculty today. Half useful half boring... Tomorrow gonna get matriculated...matriculation is...no it's not the wan after form 5...it's just a more glamarous name for registration hehe. Still got lots of things haven't kau tim. Like student pass, tutiton fee loan... TFL's d most troublesome of them all. I went to the bank twice already. Sure got problem. Felt like not taking the loan already. But, have to la....my parents not filthy rich ma. Actually, the deadline's over already but can extend as long as NUS endorses it... Haih...anyway can't kau tim the TFL yet oso cos I sent it back to home and haven't received it back. So weird...thought poslaju only takes 1 day? The office here oso weird wan...they said they'll email me when they receive it. Hope they don't take too long. Cos this letter is important. So nw just resting in my room, a thing that can't be easily done over here. Think there's some activities going on but I probably missed half of it already. Zzzzz....
